Hi Everyone,
I am learning about instructional technology with professor Tony, and I would like for you to send me some feedback about your views on the subject of instructional technology( IT). Do you find the use of technology easy to handle? Is IT easy to learn? What advice can you offer a novice technologist? I look forward to reading your comments.

Mac,
I think you have a handle on technology. You are a go-getter!
Angie
Hi Angela,
You make me laugh alot. Thanks for the encouragement. I am working on getting my photo-shot uploaded. Hopefully, all of this can be completed by weekend/by Wednesday of next week the latest.
I like a challenge and cease opportunities to test my hypothesis out. Hope your week, though hectic, is taking shape. Cheers from rural Andros where technology is quickly becoming the order of the day. (lol. Mac

Mac,
I think you have graduated from 101 with this fabulous site. You definitely have to upload a photo of the family and beatiful, sunny Andros Island.
Piro
Hi Piroska,
Thank you for posting to my blog link.
Actually, I should have uploaded my photoshot by now, and yes, a little about my island. Thanks for the reminder. Every day brings an exciting challenge with instructional technology.
Cheers from rural Andros where the sun is radiating and the water is crystal clear. If this is not heaven, tell me why? (Lol)

Instructional technology is becoming an essential part of educational insitutions and their curriculum. I enjoy the use of technology in learning new content material. Compared to traditional models the use of technology is more active for student learning. It also allows students to learn at their own levels and depths of understanding. For example, some students may choose to skim the surface while others may want to explore topics more in-depth.
Instructional technology is a growing field of study which uses technology as a means to solve educational challenges, both in the classroom and in distance learning environments.
Resistance from faculty and administrators to the use of technology in the classroom is not unusual. This reaction can arise from the belief - or fear - that the ultimate aim of instructional technology is to reduce or even remove the human element of instruction. However, most instructional technologists would counter that education will always require human intervention from instructors or facilitators.
Thanks Clement for your informative post on technology. I had meant to write you much sooner, but had much difficulty remembering my password. (lol).
Another senior moment (lol). I like the insights you offer about how technology helps in students learning. You make instructional technology seem so simple. Have you always had a love for technology or did it evolve as a passion of yours? Just curious??? Thanks for helping to advance my blog.
Hi Minnie,
Let me apologise for not being able to respond sooner. I just could not remember my password and even then, did not know that there was a way to retrieve or reset the password as is done for our shark/NSU ID? Well, well, well, seems like professor "T" and the team, including you are helping me to achieve the impossible. I am really proud of our accomplishments thus far.
Well, let me thank you for responding to my blog and I want to reassure that before the semester is over, the video pictures will be up. That is an area of my self assessment that I dare not overlook (lol).
Yes, rural Andros is gorgeous and considering that our fishing resort over looks the Tongue of the ocean and an endless piece of fishing flat. Who can ask for a better view of paradise? (lol).
Thanks for all the help you continue to provide me. Hope you are cooking, eating, reading and sleeping in that order (just a parrot version of your comments). Lol, what is your favorite tech meal when you are really busy?
Thanks, Mac
Mac,
You have made me laugh with the "senior moment" episodes and forgetting your password. (Don't worry, I couldn't remember mine either!
Thanks for your response to my blog, and wanted to let you know that you are more than wlcome to watch us at work with interative software when school starts in August---or any time you are here! Just let me know. (Now, for formal training from Explore Learning, I can find out for you).
A bien tot!
Piroska
Hi Piroska,
Yes,I must be aging, but you couldn't tell as I have just had a facial and a massage done. seems to prevent "ageritist", if only for a while longer (lol).
As for my senior moments, now these, I must give more attention too. Perhaps a glass of something, water perhaps, would help me to regain memory more readily. And so admist the senile struggles of pretending to be sixteen while the body aches for 6o, I laugh at myself. By 60, some 20 or so years from now, I wonder if I will be looking like Michael the Archangel. Don't bother with the singing. I couldn't hit la if La was like LA( LOs Angeles).
I bet interative software provides moments when the young and the not so young indeed can laugh about alot of things. I shall take you up on the offer to visit your school and observe, I will! Sometime around Sept or Oct. You will be informed.
However, if you find out about where the formal training will be held, do please, keep me in mind. I am so glad that I enrolled in this course. Something technological is happening for me. Santa Clause is going tech this Christmas! WOooooooow! Wait... Wait for me! Wait santa, I am tech savvy too.
"Yea, right?" (I don't think sooooooo). I am going to prove santa wrong this Cristmas> (LOL)
Wishing you the best for the rest of your summer and the short time left to complete your requirements with Nova. I am still heading South for vacation if mom remains well. Thanks, Mac. p.s. Hope your daughter is going great also>
Technology is a tool that is advancing education not only for professional students but for students in school as early as Pre-K and beyond.
When I went to middle school I was typing my assignments and then Brother designed a word processor that allowed you to type a single line inside a small LCD screen without error and then press return. That saved so much time, because there was no need for correction tape! How many students today have used a typewriter or even knows what it is?
I realize through my own education, technology is a necessary part of the process. Without it we could not communicate across the thousands of miles to each other. The use of technology and the advanced knowledge closes the gap of communication between all people and possibly aliens alike :)
Thank you Clement for such insight ful comments. You are so right about the power that IT has on the world today. I am sitting here trying to complete my Brain Base symposium and I am saying, G-wish, how am I going to be able to do a presentation using Elluminate or someother for of technology online other than via chat? But the assignment is asking for visual aids to be seen presentation too. I am lost here. Can you please help me find home? Thanks, Mac
The Elluminate technology is great and user friendly. I would suggest completing your powerpoint and then you can develop a script to accompany your slides. In other classes the professor advanced the slides along while the student presented. I remember emailing my ppt presentation to my professor and he uploaded it to Elluminate. You may have the same option.
The biggest challenge with using technology is making sure it is working. For example, some students had microphones but no sound. It is always good to run through your presentations a few times to make sure your volume and equipment is functional.
Aside from that, practice and a positive attitude will be the best advise I can provide.
I'm sure you will do just fine. When it is all said and done, you will be recommending the use of technology to others and won't be able to wait for the next opportunity to present.
You will do great!
Thanks Clement for your support and generous advice. I will get moving with my ppt slides asap, and contact you if challenges arise.
What a relief!
Mac
p.s. Have a great day!
I think if you are really interested it will be easy to learn and catch on. It seems like you are doing just fine. Good Luck!
Hi Shayara,
Thanks for the confidence. I try to tackle new challenges, but sometimes, there are challenges. Thanks for the encouragement.
Mac
Mac,
As you usual you continue to work hard and do well. I find using technology particularly in the classroom rather effective and the children love it.Sometimes you need an expert to work out the problems you do get. However it is worth it.
Raquel
Hi Raquel,
Thank you so much for responding to my blog. It seemed that you did find a way to create a blog after all. If you have not taken this IT course yet with professor Tony, I would suggest you do whenever it rolls around again. Hope my other doctor friends in the Bahamas Cohort are keeping up with their assignments and are learning new and exciting ways to integrate technology into the classroom. This group of doctors that I am presently working with is helping me tremendously. You should really consider taking this course. Again, thanks and I look forward to our reunion at Summer Conference 2008. This year I am a roundtable presenter too. Cheers from Mac in rural Andros (L0l). Oh don't forget our "Wacky Night" plan for the Bahamas Cohort group in Orlando. Mickey Mouse will be there too. Dress code, black and white (informal).
Mac
Hope you receive this blog. This is my first time blogging. I definitely plan to take this class.
Instructional technology is an important tool that should be used in the classroom. With help, I can learn to use many of the tech gadgets. I find them easy, because I am interested in learning how to use them. I have also found many of the experienced teachers are not comfortable with technology. They need more classes and more time to learn the process.
My advice to a novice technologist is the same advice I give myself. Keep trying, never give up.
Hi Researcher,
Thank you for responding to my blog.
You are so right about training. Until this course, I was really a mess at technology. If my computer encountered glitches, the first thing I did was to panic. Now, I am feeling alot better about technology.
You should think seriously about taking this course with professor Tony; anyone can learn under his tutelage.
Thanks,
Mac
Mac,
The last time I heard from you the parts of the computer were a challenge; now you are
a real veteran blogger. Congratulations!
As far as instructional technology, I have found that you need to have a professional
development and support system in place for all staff members. The latest technology
will gather dust if teachers do not feel comfortable with it.
Orlando
Thanks Orlando,
You make me laugh.
You are so right about the professional and support base in place. If nothing else, this
course has opened my eyes to the wonders of technology. I was really afraid of it, but
the rich support -based provided by professor "T" and future doctors of this cohort, have
helped to pushed me beyond ground zero. Oh, please, there is so much more that I still
don't know.
Regarding the first part of your comments, listen, the other day, I had to take the text
book out and walk myself through the parts on the computer; Trying to complete my self
assessment reflection was like okay Mac, what did you not know before July, 2008 and
what do you know know, and how has this new knowledge of IT helped in your
professional development?
To be honest, I really like this course. It was the better one next to Leadership with
professor Bruce Barker ( Winter, 2008). Instructors and colleagues do make the
difference. If the chemistry is not there; it is not going to work, and me, being the big
bad wolf per say, I tend to make my feelings known. Have not always got the brownie
points for doing so, but sure darn got the respect.
Hey you good doctors out there, thanks for the selfless acts you gave me. I am finally
beginning to move up the IT chart. No longer an IT virgin, am I?
From rural Andros where IT is becoming the watch word of the day!
Cheers,
Mac
P.s. See some of you in 7 days at Summer conference. Thanks
The use of technology in classrooms can be very beneficial to the students and teachers. Students are increasingly motivated and prepared to use technology in their learning process. The uniqueness of computer use and the many opportunities derived from this creative teaching approach should be utilized to bring variety to instruction. Teachers that are unfamiliar with technology need to be receptive to the use of technology to enhance their teaching. I have spoke with some teachers that feel that teachers should not be concerned with computer use while others feel computer use is essential with teaching nowadays. The ones that are against computer use indicated that they have not received training on using technology so they don’t feel comfortable using this teaching method. Since college entrance exams and certification tests are done with computers, there should definitely be computer usage required in schools. This usage is for students as well as teachers. Training should be provided for both parties to ensure the proper and effective use of computers in school. Once the training is provided, creativity can take over and educational opportunities can be enhanced. The more prepared the teachers and students are in using computers, the more relevant the use will become in education.
Hello Mac,
This class has helped me with my technology skills. I believe every school system should support instructional technology. The children of today are so fortunate to have technology at their fingertips. This will help them as they move into a globaly competitive society.
